Welcome from Jenny
Dear Friends:
Welcome to the Unlocking Potential conference website! We hope you’ll be able to join us January 8-9, 2009 at the beautiful Liberty Hotel in Boston.
Our team at Experience is busy assembling an incredible event specifically for you: the leaders, administrators, counselors and staffers who dedicate themselves to career services at our exclusive partner colleges, universities, alumni associations and organizations.
Looking back over the past few years, so much has evolved in college and alumni career services. An overwhelming amount of change -- online networks, the economy, ‘always-on’ use of technology, global demographic trends, to name a few -- are redefining each of our daily lives. And today’s students and young grads are at the forefront, leading the wave of change. They are redefining working life, and serving them requires each of us to reshape how we approach, manage and deliver career services in new ways to deliver value within this new world.
Lindsey Pollak, Gen Y expert and author of the popular book Getting from College to Career, will be our featured keynote speaker. Her presentation, called “What Gen Y Wants,” will tie common generalized themes – such as their sense of individualism, a reliance on technology and strong parental connections – back to college and alumni career services. Through anecdotes and visual examples, Lindsey will provide real-world insight into how schools and employers are dealing with the onset of the largest age group since the Baby Boom.
Unlocking Potential will also feature presentations from your career services peers who are shaping the cutting edge for the future. We will focus on how to take full advantage of the changes impacting the world in ways that will create more value – and make career services even more prominent, important and valuable – going forward. Topics will run the gambit from marketing best practices and high-level trends, to analyzing benchmark data and setting strategy in the age of Facebook and podcasts. And of course we’ll have focused breakout tracks for “new” and “advanced” administrators of our products.
In addition to the extraordinary sessions, this special event will offer each of you plenty of networking opportunities to meet and learn from each other as we work together to educate, assist and inspire the next generation. Take some to explore this site, and please don’t forget to register for what will prove to be an incredible event. See you in Boston!
All the best,
Jenny Floren
